The Art of Sustainable Living

Details: As a 13-year architect, educator on material sustainability, and a consumer of material products, Lexington native Sarah Heller finds it extremely important to use materials wisely as well as sustainably for the good of our environment. Items labeled as ‘disposable’ and designed for one-time convenience are fundamentally not designed to decompose. We don’t take into account the precious and finite nature of earth’s materials, and in turn our environment is experiencing devastation due to our global consumption. Oftentimes we use it, we toss it, and we forget about it. On Tuesday evening, May 28th, join Heller as she discusses sustainable living and re-use of materials, both in art and in everyday life. This free presentation is co-sponsored by Broadstone Books and will take place in the Library Community Room at 6:30pm. Details: Beginning May 13th the JCM Gallery welcomes Lexington artist Sarah Heller for an exhibition of her Paintings & Constructions. Sarah is an architect turned artist with a passion for sustainability in art and living, and she creates her works from recycled and reclaimed materials and found objects. She will be giving a lecture on sustainable living at the Paul Sawyier Public Library on Wapping Street in Frankfort on Tuesday, May 28th, at 6:30pm; and we will have an artist’s reception for her that Friday, May 31st from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Her show runs through July 13th.
