The Forefront of Healthcare
Frankfort Regional Medical Center, a comprehensive, full-service acute-care hospital, has provided Frankfort the high standards of care you have come to expect for the last 35 years.
Frankfort Regional represents the forefront of healthcare. Our commitment to healthcare technology and innovative new procedures is not new. We have been dedicated to finding better surgical procedures and to improving hospital systems for decades. Today and in the future, our hospital will be delivering care for babies born prematurely or those who need special care; improving outcomes and reducing recovery times; utilizing pharmacy automated dispensing units to ensure the proper and timely dispensing of medications, and using barcode scanning and electronic records technology to improve patient safety.

Additionally, Frankfort Regional has continually focused on improving and expanding services for the region. Expansion efforts have included a level II nursery, 1.5T MRI, cardiac rehab program, pain management, wound care center and a palliative care program.   We have also earned numerous honors and accolades, including:
  • Frankfort Regional Medical Center was chosen as the best company to work for in Kentucky by the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (KYSHRM) State Council and the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. This is the third year in a row that the hospital has been recognized as one of the best places to work and the top hospital among large-sized companies (250 employees or greater).
  • Frankfort Regional Medical Center received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence, an award given by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The award is specifically designated to recognize the nation's top pediatric, progressive, and adult critical care units across a multitude of hospitals.  Only 2% of the estimated 6,000 ICU’s in the United States have received the Beacon Award, and we are one of only two hospitals in Kentucky to ever receive this designation.
  • Frankfort Regional Medical Center received the 2009 Kentucky Hospital Association’s Quality Award in the 100-250 bed size category. KHA's Quality Award is presented to honor hospital leadership and innovation in quality, safety, and commitment in patient care.
  • According to a national patient safety study in American hospitals, Frankfort Regional Medical Center ranks among the top five percent in the nation in patient safety. The study analyzed performance in 13 patient-safety indicators over a three-year time period and millions of patient records. Frankfort Regional Medical Center was one of only five hospitals recognized in Kentucky, and the only hospital in Central Kentucky, to receive the recognition.
  • Frankfort Regional Medical Center was named the winner of the Republic Bank & Trust Company's third annual “We CARE” Award for Central Kentucky health care companies. We were selected from among all for-profit and non-profit companies, associations, and government agencies in Frankfort, Georgetown and Lexington. The hospital was a finalist for the award in 2006 and 2007. The award was created to publicly congratulate companies who stress the four elements contained in the We CARE name itself - Community, Activity, Recognition and Enterprise.

Frankfort Regional operates facilities throughout the region to better serve our patients through convenience and access to high quality care. In addition to the hospital, the network of facilities includes the Lawrenceburg Medical Specialty Clinic, MRI Center, Rehab Center, and the Frankfort Medical Pavilion. In late 2007, Frankfort Regional opened the Frankfort Medical Pavilion, an advanced medical facility located adjacent to the hospital providing patients greater convenience to outpatient services.

As one of Franklin County’s largest employers, the hospital plays a vital economic role in the community, enhancing the health of the community with hundreds of jobs and millions of tax dollars to support government agencies and infrastructure. All the technology and medical advancements wouldn’t mean a thing without our highly skilled, dedicated and conscientious staff.

Frankfort—Just the Right Size
by Kay Steele Faulk

Chip and Lori Peal and their two children, Matthew and Ashley, moved to Frankfort for Chip’s new position as CEO of Frankfort Regional Medical Center. They lived for a short time on the 10th floor of the Capital Plaza Hotel. “One nice benefit of living at the hotel was discovering Frankfort’s many wonderful restaurant choices,” Chip said.

Right from the beginning, Chip and Lori found people to be very friendly and willing to point out places to go and sites to see. Like so many new residents, Chip expressed surprise at how quick and painless it was to get their driver’s licenses at the DMV.

One person particularly helpful to the family was their real estate agent, Pat Badgett with Century 21 Simpson And Associates, who found them the perfect home at The Heritage, which has other couples with young children.

Chip reported that the Frankfort YMCA staff was a great help in getting Matthew and Ashley enrolled in sports programs. “And they were very generous in telling us about other sports options in town,” he said. “So we were able to start our children in sports right away and get them acclimated to the community rather quickly.”

Matthew and Ashley attend Bridgeport Elementary, which is right across from the hospital. That’s especially nice for Chip because when the children have school activities, he can pop over and then get right back.

Chip said the teachers at Bridgeport are excellent. But what he and Lori really like about the school is that they’re very much into celebration. He explained, “They routinely have celebrations to recognize children for various achievements. It’s quite something to experience. You’ve got a gym full of several hundred elementary school children and just before the celebration ceremony begins, all the teachers and children hold one hand above their heads with their fingers spread out. Then they begin dropping one finger at a time as they count down from five to one. As they get closer to one, you can hear the decibel level drop. Finally, they each take the one finger and put it over their mouth. That’s their signal to themselves and each other to be quiet. It’s just fascinating to see how well the children behave and how they know exactly what to do when all of this happens. Bridgeport has been very good for our kids.”

Women’s Care of the Bluegrass Adds Family Care
by Key Steele Faulk

Women’s Care of the Bluegrass (WCOTB) has expanded its services to include a family practice known as Family Care of the Bluegrass, which handles everything from pediatrics to geriatrics. Family medicine physician Dr. Jairme Bailey and nurse practitioner Ellen Urquhart see patients Monday through Friday 8:30 to 5:00 with evening hours on Tuesday until 7:00. Convenient Saturday hours of 8:30 to noon are available one Saturday each month.

WCOTB is already one of Frankfort’s most popular medical groups, with four board-certified obstetrician/gynecologists—Drs. Steven Hall, Everett Horn, Angela Saxena and Mark Wainwright—certified nurse midwife Katie Isaac and nurse practitioner Rebecca Rice.

According to Dr. Hall, WCOTB physicians treat a range of obstetrical, gynecological and infertility problems—including high-risk pregnancy. He said, “In our Frankfort office, we can do gynecological and obstetrical ultrasound, bone density tests for osteoporosis screening and urodynamics, or bladder study, for women with incontinence and other bladder problems.” All in all, the physicians of WCOTB are able to care for the obstetrical and gynecological needs of women from adolescence through their post-menopausal years.

Dr. Hall said the WCOTB physicians prefer the Frankfort Regional Medical Center for most of their obstetrics and gynecological surgeries. “It’s a regional medical center, which gives our patients all of the expertise and services that go along with that designation and yet, it’s small enough to give patients that personal hometown touch, which can be so important.”

He added that WCOTB physicians do have privileges in Lexington to deliver there in the event they feel a high-risk pregnancy will need access to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). However, he was pleased to report that with the development of the Frankfort Regional Medical Center’s new Level II Nursery, “many of the babies that in the past would have been transferred to Lexington or Louisville can now be cared for right here with their moms.”

In addition to its Frankfort office at 89 C. Michael Davenport Blvd., WCOTB offers women of Central Kentucky easy access to sensitive, compassionate health care through their offices in Versailles, Lawrenceburg and Owenton. Weekday office hours are 8:30 to 5:00. The Frankfort office is also open Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 12:00.
