The primary goal of the program is to help a child reach his or her maximum potential by focusing on the full needs of the children and youth in single family families.  Big Brothers/Big Sisters service hopes to provide some of the key factors which are necessary for normal development which may be missing in the lives of many children.

Bluegrass Community Action - Senior Companion

The Senior Companion Program is a unique exchange of service that enhances the lives of both older seniors on a fixed income and seniors needing assistance with daily living.  The goal of the program is to help keep the frail, homebound elderly living independently in their homes.

Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center

The Frankfort Office of the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center provides crisis counseling as well as hospital and legal advocacy to victims of sexual assault.  Crisis counseling for the family and friends of sexual assault survivors is also provided.  Speakers are available to discuss rape awareness, risk reduction for rape and sexual abuse of children, acquaintance rape, childhood sexual abuse, the legal and medical aspects of sexual assualt, as well as the social and historical views of rape. Presentations may be tailored to fit the needs of a wide variety of groups, including in-service programs for professionals and classroom presentations.

A therapeutic rehabilitation program serving adults with mental illness that may interfere with activities of daily living and threaten community tenure.  Members of Capital House have formed a drama group, Capital Players, to educate others about mental illness

Serves hot lunches to indigent of the community, no questions asked; provides emergency temporary shelter for men all year long.  A men’s shelter April 1 thru October 1, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., October 1 thru March 31, 6 p.m. – 8 a.m.

The Council on Family Abuse is a private non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of family violence.  The council address issues related to child abuse, partner abuse and elderly abuse.

Provides eye exams and eyeglasses for deserving children and adults in the Frankfort area.  Hosts “Christmas for Kids,” which includes; Santa visits and distribution of gifts for all the children, families receive a food basket so they can enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner.  Conducts a Bingo session each Wednesday to support its charities in the Frankfort Area.

PUSH - Early Childhood Development Center

To identify children from birth to 5 years who have developmental disabilities or who are “at-risk.” Provides the least restrictive environment and assistance needed to develop in all areas.  Provides family training and support to maximize their child’s development.  Screening for children birth to 5 years; weekly Early Interventions for children of special needs birth to 3 years; pre-school services for children (with/without special needs) age 2 ½-5 years, speech, physical and occupational therapies for all children as needed.  Individual education plans written for all children.

The SCP serves a dual purpose: to create volunteer opportunities for low-income seniors age 60 and over and to keep frail seniors in their homes, living independently, as long as they possibly can to avoid premature institutionalization.  Senior Companions are healthy older adults who offer assistance with grocery shopping and other daily tasks necessary to maintain independence.

This summer program is for youth 6 to 16 which runs for ten weeks.  The mission of the SFCC is to provide a window to our world to the youth of our community through educational and enrichment programs, and through social interaction.  The programs’ objectives are to motivate, stimulate and educate; to improve self-esteem; and to develop the discipline needed to be successful in one’s life endeavors.

The Center provides individual counseling free of charge to victims of abuse, conducts supervised visitation/transfer, offers daily crisis intervention on as needed basis, teaches and abuse prevention program “Talking about Touching” to area preschool-elementary age children, offers weekly group instruction for adolescents, teens and parents, and provides a respite drop-in nursery for children at risk of abuse.

The community center located in South Frankfort which serves children and parents.  The center provides programs and activities such as after-school tutoring, computer classes, service projects, a Dance Team and field trips.  The Kings Center is a fun, educational, uplifting and safe place for children to spend time.

The Simon House

A shelter where adult women and their children can live in order to learn independent living skills and prepare themselves for a productive return to society.  The house contains sleeping rooms for 8 women and 12 children and community bathrooms/kitchens.  Also provides emergency housing to transient women, access to the health department, social insurance, doctors, and educational/job search assistance.

Provides funds to non-profit 501 (c) (3) human service agencies in Frankfort/Franklin County through proceeds from an annual campaign.  To receive funding, an agency must submit an application and participate in the four-month review process conducted by community volunteers. United Way also serves as an information and referral source to the community and to its agencies.
